 The Naked Prophet
or
The Truth about Women in Islam

The Islamic legal system is based on the sayings and actions of Mohammed. Every good Muslim has to emulate the prophet in every possible way. So forget about what today's Muslims say about women's rights, and rather have a look at the foundation of women's rights in Islam, the collection of Hadith. If you do not like what you read here, don't get angry at me. I did not write the ahadith. Get angry at the faithful who accurately recorded the history of the prophet.

Many will argue that you cannot judge Mohammed against Western or modern standards, since he was a product of a specific culture at a specific era. My point is that if someone claims to bring God's final message to mankind, he should transcend his own culture and rise above the morals of his time, otherwise his claim to universality means nothing.

Dedications

The Sunnah of Prophet Mohammed on Women's Rights.

What Mohammed thought of women in general.

They are evil.
He does mention religious women in other
ahadith, but these seem to be his thoughts on the gender in general.

Sahih Muslim: Book 008, Number 3240:

The woman advances and retires in the shape of a devil...

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 62, Number 30:

     Narrated Abdullah bin 'Umar:

Allah's Apostle said, "Evil omen is in the women, the house and the horse.'

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 62, Number 33:

     Narrated Usama bin Zaid:

The Prophet said, "After me I have not left any affliction more harmful to men than women."

As a general rule, they go to hell.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 62, Number 124:

     Narrated Usama:

The Prophet said, "I stood at the gate of Paradise and saw that the majority of the people who entered it were the
poor, while the wealthy were stopped at the gate (for the accounts). But the companions of the Fire were ordered
to be taken to the Fire. Then I stood at the gate of the Fire and saw that the majority of those who entered it were
     women."

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 62, Number 125:

     Narrated 'Abdullah bin Abbas:

     ...Then I (Mohammed) saw the
(Hell) Fire, and I have never before, seen such a horrible sight as that, and I saw that the majority of its dwellers
were women." The people asked, "O Allah's Apostle! What is the reason for that?" He replied, "Because of their
ungratefulness." It was said. "Do they disbelieve in Allah (are they ungrateful to Allah)?" He replied, "They are not
thankful to their husbands and are ungrateful for the favors done to them. Even if you do good to one of them all
your life, when she seems some harshness from you, she will say, "I have never seen any good from you.' "

They are ungrateful.

     "They are not
thankful to their husbands and are ungrateful for the favors done to them. Even if you do good to one of them all
your life, when she seems some harshness from you, she will say, "I have never seen any good from you.' "

They are stupid.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 6, Number 301:

     Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:

Once Allah's Apostle went out to the Musalla (to offer the prayer) o 'Id-al-Adha or Al-Fitr prayer. Then he
passed by the women and said, "O women! Give alms, as I have seen that the majority of the dwellers of Hell-fire
were you (women)." They asked, "Why is it so, O Allah's Apostle ?" He replied, "You curse frequently and are
     ungrateful to your husbands.
I have not seen anyone more deficient in intelligence and religion than you. A cautious
sensible man could be led astray by some of you." The women asked, "O Allah's Apostle! What is deficient in our
intelligence and religion?" He said, "Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?" They
replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her intelligence. Isn't it true that a woman can neither
pray nor fast during her menses?" The women replied in the affirmative. He said, "This is the deficiency in her
     religion."

Their religion is inferior to that of men.
As above

In contrast to what people say today, Mohammed loved sex!
Nothing wrong about that, (Don't we all?) except that the modern legend tend to deny his sexuality and focus on his altruism towards the women he married.

His powers were the stuff legends (sorry, authentic ahadith) were made of!

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 62, Number 6:

     Narrated Anas:

The Prophet used to go round (have sexual relations with) all his wives in one night, and he had nine wives.

He thinked about it constantly, and made small talk about it.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 62, Number 16:

     Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah:

While we were returning from a Ghazwa (Holy Battle) with the Prophet, I started driving my camel fast, as it was
a lazy camel A rider came behind me and pricked my camel with a spear he had with him, and then my camel
started running as fast as the best camel you may see. Behold! The rider was the Prophet himself. He said, 'What
makes you in such a hurry?" I replied, I am newly married " He said, "Did you marry a virgin or a matron? I
replied, "A matron." He said, "Why didn't you marry a young girl so that you may play with her and she with you?"

He had a roving eye, and was easily aroused by looking at other women.

Sahih Muslim: Book 008, Number 3240:

Jabir reported that Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) saw a woman, and so he came to his wife,

Zainab, as she was tanning a leather and had sexual intercourse with her. He then went to his Companions and
told them: The woman advances and retires in the shape of a devil, so when one of you sees a woman, he should
come to his wife, for that will repel what he feels in his heart.

Reasons to marry a woman
Very pragmatic indeed. Do you see anything here about love? So tell me, why don't so many men know the difference between lust and love? Mohammed was indeed the prophet of social climbers. Why did he not marry other women while
Khadidja lived? She had the money, off course!

Sahih Muslim: Book 008, Number 3457:

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: A
woman may be married for four reasons: for her property, her status. her beauty and her religion, so try to get one
who is religious, may your hand be besmeared with dust.

Did he really treat all his wives equally?

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 62, Number 5:

     Narrated 'Ata:

We presented ourselves along with Ibn 'Abbas at the funeral procession of Maimuna at a place called Sarif. Ibn
     '
Abbas said, "This is the wife of the Prophet so when you lift her bier, do not Jerk it or shake it much, but walk
smoothly because the Prophet had nine wives and he used to observe the night turns with eight of them, and for
one of them there was no night turn."

The curse of Allah on a wife who has a "headache"!
Funny that the opposite does not apply!
Maimuna might appeal!

Sahih Muslim: Book 008, Number 3367:

Abu Huraira (Allah be pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: By Him
in Whose Hand is my life, when a man calls his wife to his bed, and she does not respond, the One Who is in the
heaven is displeased with her until he (her husband) is pleased with her.

Sahih Muslim: Book 008, Number 3368:

Abu Huraira (Allah he pleased with him) reported Allah's Messenger (may, peace be upon him) as saying: When
a man invites his wife to his bed and she does not come, and he (the husband) spends the sight being angry with
her, the angels curse her until morning.

It is Sunnah to keep slaves in captivity for the purpose of raping them.
Since a slave does not own her own body she cannot refuse or give consent to sex. Especially in a culture where slaves knew that their duties included the master's pleasure. So don't fuss about the word rape. How would you like to be in that position?

Sahih Muslim: Book 008, Number 3383:

Jabir (Allah be pleased with him) reported that a man came to Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said: I have a slave-girl who is our servant and she carries water for us and I have intercourse with her, but I do not want her to conceive. He said: Practise 'azl, if you so like, but what is decreed for her will come to her. The person stayed back (for some time) and then came and said: The girl has become pregnant, whereupon he said: I told you what was decreed for her would come to her.

Malik's Muwatta: Book 28, Number 28.16.38:

Malik said, "It is not halal to marry a christian or jewish slave-girl because Allah the Blessed, the Exalted, said in
His Book, 'Believing women who are
muhsanat and women of those who were given the Book before you who
     are
muhsanat', (sura 5 ayat 6) and they are free women from the Christians and Jews. Allah, the Blessed, the
Exalted, said in His Book, 'If you are not affluent enough to marry believing women who are
muhsanat, take
believing slave-girls whom your right hands own.' " (
Sura 4 ayat 24)

Malik said, "In our opinion, Allah made marriage to believing slave-girls halal, and He did not make halal marriage
     to
christian and jewish slave-girls from the People of the Book."

Malik said, "The christian and jewish slave-girl are halal for their master by right of possession, but intercourse
     with a
magian slave-girl is not halal by the right of possession."

It is Sunnah to rape your female prisoners of war.

Sahih Muslim: Book 008, Number 3325:

...As he entered the habitation he called: Allah-o-Akbar (Allah is the Greatest). Khaibar is ruined. And when we get down in the valley of a people evil is the morning of the warned  ones. He repeated it thrice. In the meanwhile the people went out for their work, and said: By Allah, Muhammad (has come). Abd al-'Aziz or some of our com- panions said: Muhammad and the army (have come). He said: We took it (the territory of Khaibar) by force, and there were gathered the prisoners of war. There came Dihya and  he said: Messenger of Allah, bestow upon me a girl ont of the prisones. He said: Go and get any girl...

And who cares if they get pregnant?

Sahih Muslim: Book 008, Number 3371:

Abu Sirma said to Abu Sa'id al Khadri (Allah he pleased with him): 0 Abu Sa'id, did you hear Allah's Messenger
(may peace be upon him) mentioning al-'
azl? He said: Yes, and added: We went out with Allah's Messenger (may
peace be upon him) on the expedition to the
Bi'l-Mustaliq and took captive some excellent Arab women; and we
desired them, for we were suffering from the absence of our wives, (but at the same time) we also desired ransom
for them. So we decided to have sexual intercourse with them but by observing '
azl (Withdrawing the male sexual
organ before emission of semen to avoid-conception). But we said: We are doing an act whereas Allah's
Messenger is amongst us; why not ask him? So we asked Allah's
Mes- senger (may peace be upon him), and he
said: It does not matter if you do not do it, for every soul that is to be born up to the Day of Resurrection will be
     born.

Mohammed gave his consent to the rape of women who where to be ransomed. These people had no intention of marrying them. They did not want to take responsibility for any children, though. It is interesting that the prophet did not share their sense of duty. The abysmal failure of Mohammed's morality is evident in the fact that the question of raping these women does not even enter into his mind. He is only concerned with coitus interruptus.

Sahih Muslim: Book 008, Number 3432:

Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (Allah her pleased with him) reported that at the Battle of Hanain Allah's Messenger (may
peace be upon him) sent an army to
Autas and encountered the enemy and fought with them. Having overcome
them and taken them captives, the Companions of Allah's Messenger (may peace
te upon him) seemed to refrain
from having intercourse with captive women because of their husbands being polytheists. Then Allah, Most High,
sent down regarding that:" And women already married, except those whom your right hands possess (iv. 24)" (
i.
     e. they were lawful for them when their '
Idda period came to an end).

I saw a Kossovan Muslim girl on TV the other day, describing how she was raped by militia because she was a Muslim. I cried with her, and even more because her own prophet helped to create the culture of raping captives.

Mohammed, the Pedophile Prophet. It is Sunnah to rape girls who have not yet reached puberty.
A girl who has not reached puberty cannot consent to sex. She is not physically or mentally prepared for it. So again, if you do not see this as rape, OK. But you have to live with your conscience.

Sahih Muslim: Volume 7, Book 62, Number 18:

     Narrated 'Ursa:

The Prophet asked Abu Bakr for 'Aisha's hand in marriage. Abu Bakr said "But I am your brother." The Prophet
said, "You are my brother in Allah's religion and His Book, but she (
Aisha) is lawful for me to marry."

Abu Bakr's words pierced my heart when I first read it. Imagine his disappointment and dread when Mohammed told him he wanted his beloved little daughter: "But I am your brother!" How can you do such a thing to me! Can any honest commentator say that Abu Bakr regarded this proposal as a reward for his faithfulness to the prophet?

Shahih Muslim, Book 008, Number 3309:

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) married me when I was six years old, and I was admitted to his house at the age of nine. She further said: We went to Medina and I had an attack of fever for a month, and my hair had come down to the earlobes. Umm Ruman (my mother) came to me and I was at that time on a swing along with my playmates. She called me loudly and I went to her and I did not know what she had wanted of me. She took hold of my hand and took me to the door, and I was saying: Ha, ha (as if I was gasping), until the agitation of my heart was over. She took me to a house, where had gathered the women of the Ansar. They all blessed me and wished me good luck and said: May you have share in good. She (my mother) entrusted me to them. They washed my head and embellished me and nothing frightened me. Allah's Messenger (, may peace be upon him) came there in the morning, and I was entrusted to him.

Shahih Muslim, Book 008, Number 3311:

'A'isha (Allah be pleased with her) reported that Allah's Apostle (may peace be upon him) married her when she
     was seven years old, and he was taken to his house as a bride when she was nine, and her dolls were with her;
and when he (the Holy Prophet) died she was eighteen years old.

Shahih Muslim, Book 031, Number 5981:

'A'isha reported that she used to play with dolls in the presence of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him)
and when her playmates came to her they left (the house) because they felt shy of Allah's Messenger (may peace
be upon him), whereas Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) sent them to her.

Mohammed stooped to saying that his pedophilia was the will of Allah:

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 62, Number 15:
     Narrated '
Aisha:

Allah's Apostle said (to me), "You have been shown to me twice in (my) dreams. A man was carrying you in a
silken cloth and said to me, 'This is your wife.' I uncovered it; and behold, it was you. I said to myself, 'If this
dream is from Allah, He will cause it to come true.' "

And incidentally,  this is what Aisha thought of these handy little revelations from Allah:

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 62, Number 48:

     Narrated Hisham's father:

...when the Verse: "(O Muhammad) You may  postpone (the turn of) any of them (your wives) that you please,' (33.51) was revealed, " 'Aisha said, 'O Allah's  Apostle! I do not see, but, that your Lord hurries in pleasing you.' "

Muslims today argue that Aisha had an early onset of menses. I would like them to explain why Bukhari stipulates that the time of 'idda for girls who have not reached puberty is three months. The answer is obvious: They may get pregnant on their first ovulatory cycle.

Sunnan Abu Dawud: Book 12, Number 2190:

     Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas:

Divorced women shall wait concerning themselves for three monthly periods. Nor is it lawful for them to hide what
Allah hath created in their wombs.

This waiting period is known as 'iddat.

Sahih Bukhari: Volume 7, Book 62, Number 63:

     Narrated Sahl bin Sad:

...And the 'Iddat for the girl before puberty is three months.

Ever wondered why he ordered his wifes to shave their pubic regions?

Prostitution is Sunnah, or at least it was until the Battle of Khaibar.
A man, according to the prophet, is the slave of his penis. So if you do not have a woman handy, marry one for three days, but make sure you pay her for services rendered.

Shahih Muslim, Book 008, Number 3243:

Abdullah (b. Mas'ud) reported: We were on an expedition with Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and we had no women with us. We said: Should we not have ourselves castrated? He (the Holy Prophet) forbade us to do so He then granted us permission that we should contract temporary marriage for a stipulated period giving her a garment, and 'Abdullah then recited this verse: 'Those who believe do not make unlawful the good things which Allah has made lawful for you, and do not transgress. Allah does not like trangressers" (al-Qur'an, v. 87).

Shahih Muslim, Book 008, Number 3252:

Sabra Juhanni reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) permitted temporary marriage for us. So I and another person went out and saw a woman of Bana 'Amir, who was like a young long-necked she-camel. We presented ourselves to her (for contracting temporary marriage), whereupon she said: What dower would you give me? I said: My cloak. And my companion also said: My cloak. And the cloak of-my companion was superior to my cloak, but I was younger than he. So when she looked at the cloak of my companion she liked it, and when she cast a glance at me I looked more attractive to her. She then said: Well, you and your cloak are sufficient for me. I remained with her for three nights, and then Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: He who has any such woman with whom he had contracted temporary marriage, he should let her off.

And then alas, the law was changed.

Shahih Muslim, Book 008, Number 3255:

Sabra al-Juhanni reported on the authority of his father that while he was with Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon hm) he said: 0 people, I had permitted you to contract temporary marriage with women, but Allah has forbidden it (now) until the Day of Resurrection. So he who has any (woman with this type of marriage contract) he should let her off, and do not take back anything you have given to then (as dower).

Why was the law changed? Someone pointed out to the prophet, that a rose, by any other name, still smells of prostitution!

Malik's Muwatta: Book 28, Number 28.18.42:

Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Urwa ibn az-Zubayr that Khawla ibn Hakim came to

Umar ibn al-Khattab and said, ''Rabia ibn Umayya made a temporary marriage with a woman and she is pregnant
     by him.''
Umar ibn al-Khattab went out in dismay dragging his cloak, saying, "This temporary marriage, had I
come across it, I would have ordered stoning and done away with it! "

It is obvious that Umar's sense of decency was better developed than Mohammed's, and that Umar's opinion prevailed.
